Lens Antennas
Lens antennas are a simple but very efficient and robust type of the antenna technology. A lens antenna consists of a homogeneous dielectric lens with extremely low loss and a feed antenna element placed directly on the lens back plane surface.
The narrow beam is formed by a proper lens shape focusing the radiation from the feed element into one direction. Any waveguide or planar elements can be used as feed antenna elements for the lens.
Key advantages of the lens antenna technology include:
High aperture efficiency - only 1 to 1.5 dB from the diffraction limit which is significantly better than for most practical antenna technologies. For example, a lens antenna is 20-30% smaller than an equivalent Cassegrain antenna
Very wide bandwidth - only limited by the bandwidth of the feeding element
Significant cost advantages over alternative antenna technologies
Ease of integration with ODU
Color customization
Outdoor-rated, UV-resistant, environment friendly and safety certified low-cost low-weight plastic material with excellent mm-wave performance
Applications of lens antennas include mm-wave 5G, point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radios, mm-wave sensors and many others.
Telecommunication products with the Radio Gigabit's lens antennas have been certified (FCC/ETSI) and deployed in multiple commercial networks worldwide. All the characteristics (performance, cost, etc.) are validated in series production.
